When we think of gym wear or sports clothing, we usually picture either tight-fitting clothes made from spandex or nylon, or loose shorts and tops typical of what some people usually use when working out on the gym. Thankfully for those who want to still look fashionable even when working out, there are now a lot of options from various brands who have upped the ante of sports and active clothing. Sportswear brands have gone in on the bandwagon, working with stellar designers such as Stella McCartney and Jeremy Scott, these collaborations offer a wider range of chic sportswear for sartorially conscious gym goers.
The look “sporty” has expanded from being just a simple gym staple to an emerging trend especially among young people who have taken this look into a mix of street style sensibilities. Things that were usually used in gyms such as sports jackets and sports bags have become coveted items for fashionistas as well.
They have become part of acceptable everyday wear, evident of this fact are the number of celebrities and other high-profile personalities being pictured by the paparazzi running errands, going out for a coffee run or playing with their kids in comfy gym wear, a welcome departure from their glamorous red-carpet looks.
The key is to mix and match pieces which work well together for your overall look. Just like any other thing in fashion, styles and trends come and go so it is important to keep up with the times. This is increasingly becoming evident as sports personalities have become such as the Williams sisters Venus and Serena, David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo have been signed on by major sportswear and fashion brands to become endorsers.
Despite the increasing styles of major sportswear brands, the clothes should still be comfortable to move around in as this is what the pur
pose of sports clothing should primarily be.
They should be easy to care for, washable, and can withstand the wear, tear and stress associated with constant physical movement. Choose clothes that are breathable and does not let sweat stick on your skin, so you can do your workouts more comfortably with less distractions. Follow the washing and drying instructions on the label as some sports clothing are made of material that may shrink or expand when washed with hot or cold water.
Always remember that though it may be tempting to wear comfortable sports clothing everywhere, there are still some places where they may not be appropriate. If you have a casual dress code in the office, be sure to mix sporty with more polished pieces so that you still look professional without looking like you just got out of or are on your way to going to the gym.
